About

Hello, I'm Jake Norris and welcome to my website!

My interest in creating digital art began a young age. I was in sixth grade and all of the electives I wanted to take were full. The only open class was digital art 1. I took the class without any interest and found myself falling in love with it. I began by making small photoshop projects using basic adobe skills and I found that with the more I learned, the more I could create. So I found myself taking digital art classes nearly all the way through my early years until I graduated high school.

Now I use a lot of these skills for my design schooling with Landscape Architecture. And while Landscape Architecture is indeed art, it's not exactly what I pictured doing when utilizing these skills. In the topic of art, I find that art can be found anywhere within anything. Art is whatever you want it to be in my opinion. If you think something is beautiful or ugly whether it's the sunset, a landscape, or even a mathematical equation, it can all be considered art in the eye of the viewer.

My main medium when making art work always starts with hand drawing. Trying to get an idea on paper helps my process. I then tend to stick to the Adobe Suite, mainly Illustrator and Photoshop (when I need it). The art I really want to practice creating is mandelbulb art/fractal generation and animation. I find After Effects to be a fun tool to experiment with and I wish to improve my skills within that program. In the future, I would love to make a living with VJ and computer generative art. Mandelbulb animations and music are my favorite thing to work with and the discipline of making visual animations to time up with music is a popular and growing area of art creation.

If you don't know, a VJ is an abbreviation for Visual Jockey. The concerts and shows I see in the bass music scene will often have these types of people. To put it simply, VJ’s work and collaboration with the DJ playing the set for that night. Through a series of loops and weird creative animation, sound and sight can integrate and become one. This creates a more encompassing experience and allows people to physically view an artistic interpretation of the music. This is the kind of work I hope to experience in the future.
